Proof-reading tool [Grammarly].

Readability,

Politeness,
Confidence and,
Inclusivity.

Grammarly will then automatically suggest options to make your blog stand out and look more authoritative and professional.

Reliable and good internet connection?

Obvious isn’t it? but the quality of your internet connection is important. Choose a good reliable operator in your area with good uptime and speed. Do not try to cut corners here.

If you are serious about making money from blogging, then you will be working for hours at a time every day. And if you are not connected to the internet then you will be handicapped.

You need the internet for your research, updating, editing, designing, maintaining and pretty much everything you do will depend on a fast and reliable internet connection with good uptime.

As a professional blogger, you need to be making money from blogging and you have to be thinking like a businessman about how to sharpen and improve your blogging skills to drive traffic to your site.

The Best Laptop you can buy?

A no brainer really. Of course, you need a laptop. So why have I bothered to even mention it? The laptop you use matters. It is absolutely crucial that you a good fast laptop with the latest software. The last thing you want is a laggy, slow laptop that hangs often and impedes your work.

The top professionals in any field use the best equipment available. Have you heard of a professional tennis player use a cheap racquet? Spend some money because it will help you in the long run. If you can’t afford a new one right now go on and buy a used laptop with the right configuration for speed and good enough to be able to run the latest software.

For a list of the best laptops for blogging for beginners see our curated list of 11 best laptops for bloggers under $ 400 or Rs. 30000.

While a laptop and internet connection are what a racquet is to a tennis player or a bat is to a cricketer, all the other stuff that we have listed here can be compared to accessories that will make your blogging life easier and enable you to get stuff done without breaking a sweat.

Now that we have that figured let us move on to other not so obvious stuff that most bloggers starting new will learn with time. But we are going to make it easy for you by listing them all in one place.

Screenshot tool.

Images are extremely important in a blog. They complement your content and makes your blog interesting and engaging.

Think about it.

While scrolling through a Facebook timeline wouldn’t you be more inclined to read a post with a picture attached rather than one without it? Its human nature.

Images need not only be pictures, but they can also be graphs or an illustration to help explain your content. This can engage your reader and make them spend more time reading your blog.

An infographic image is more likely to be shared on social media by your readers than merely written content which can increase traffic to your blog.

To take images from the internet you need a good screenshot tool.

The one that I use is icecream screen recorder. Unlike the print screen button on your keyboard which captures the entire screen. This software can capture any part or area of the screen that you wish.

For professional images you could also download images from the internet.

Keep in mind that it is important to make sure that the images you use are legal and copyright free.

If you are in doubt about a particular image, it is always a good idea to take permission from the website owner and offer to attribute the image back to the rightful owner in your blog.

Or you could buy great professional images from Shutterstock.

Or get free images from sites like Unsplash or Pixabay.

Make your own images

Use Snappa to make your own images [like the ‘featured image’ at the top of this post]. Give wings to your creativity and create beautiful images to give meaning and depth to your blog posts.

Image resizing tool.

While it is important to include images in your blog, you need to ensure that you do not upload heavy files as these can slow down your page load times.

Fast page load time is critical to the success of your blog. It has been shown that a 1 second delay in loading can cause loss of page views by up to 11%.

So you should resize the images without losing image quality before uploading them to your blog.

Some good free tools to resize images without losing image quality is ReSizeImage and ImageResizer

Broken link checker

Broken links are extremely bad for SEO and should be avoided at all costs. It also results in a bad user expereince.

Every blog or website contains links that lead to and open pages on other websites or blogs [called outbound links] and some that lead to pages or posts within the same blog or website [called internal links].

Over time as the size of your blog grows the number of such links will increase and get more and more difficult to manage.

If by any chance the target page is moved then the link gets broken. This can also happen if you change the URL of a page or post and don’t update all the links to that page to reflect the change.

Trying to manually trace and correct each and every link on your blog is a daunting and practically impossible task.

If you want to install a plugin to help you check with broken links then you can install the Broken Link Checker WordPress plugin.
Keep in mind that this plugin is very resource-intensive and will slow down your blog or website. So remember to deactivate the plugin after you have finished using it and don’t keep it running in the background.

One of the free online resources that can help you track broken links in your blog is Online Broken Link Checker. So use this resource at regular intervals to check for any broken links and keep your blog healthy.

    1. Thanks, Adarsh. Yes, it is true that it is the basic stuff that is easily overlooked especially when you are starting out and on a budget. But they always come back to bite you. It is always wise to spend a little more and go for the right stuff keeping the long-term view and the right stuff doesn’t always mean the costliest thing available in the market. One has to be practical. I am working on a list of the best laptops available that a blogger starting out can choose from without having to break the bank. Hope to put this out soon. Cheers.
